What to expect on the 3-night Yoga Retreat at Rukgala

Day 1

Arrival 🌿

A slightly bumpy road eventually leads to our jungle paradise, overlooking Victoria Lake in Sri Lanka. Rehydrate with a fresh king coconut on arrival, and soak up the good vibes. You’ll have a good few hours to chill out by the pool and get settled in before the evening yoga session begins.

5:30pm - Yoga time

Our incredible teak wood yoga shala will be waiting for you, and one of our wonderful teachers will lead you through a grounding Yin or Restorative session as the sun sets over the knuckles mountain range. You’ll be super comfy, surrounded by a cool breeze, plenty of props, and a lavender eye pillow at the ready.

7pm - Dinner

Take a seat at our communal table, joined by new friends from around the world.

You’ll be served a deliciously balanced three-course meal. Our menu adds a lighter twist to traditional, local and seasonal Sri Lankan dishes, offering plant-based and flexitarian options. There is always a large and diverse range of vegetables and grains around the table, all lovingly made from scratch. We only use the freshest, local and seasonal ingredients!

We might be biased, but we think it’s some of the most delicious food you’ll find in Sri Lanka.

Day 2

 

8am - Yoga time

Wake up with the birds (or monkeys!) at sunrise, leisurely sipping on your herbal tea or coffee as you soak in the atmosphere. Around 8am, we’ll meet in the shala for a slow flow or vinyasa class. Open to all levels, you’ll experience a well-balanced combination of meditation, movement and breath work that will leave you feeling challenged and accomplished.

 

10am - Breakfast

✨ The star of the show ✨

Leaving some details to your imagination, let’s just say you will not go hungry...

Free-time

You can slot in your hike to Bambaragala cave temples or your Ayurvedic full body massage here, or whenever you like. The hike takes around 3-4 hours and offers some of the most beautiful 360 degree views of Victoria lake.

Lunch

Time for more food. Fresh, healthy salads, with a twist. That is, if you’re not still full from breakfast!

Yoga

Back for more yin. You might find yourself melting into your mat, as you’re so relaxed.

Dinner

Time for more food, with plenty of variation so there’s no chance of getting bored.

Day 3

Looks a lot like day 2, you’re likely to have shredded a few pounds of stress at this stage.
Eat, Sleep, Yoga, Repeat.

Day 4

Early rise, hit the yoga Shala and squeeze in one more breakky before you hit the road.
