The lake almost right up to our front gate after the rains

As said, we conceived Rukgala with the view to it being a venue for group retreats - primarily, but not only, yoga retreats - and built it out with that purpose in mind.

We made sure the Shala was a really special place to be; we thought about having a good amount of comfortable communal space; we set the room layout - with some twins and the mezzanine Garden Cottage rooms - to easily fit guests sharing.

We have hosted a lot of retreats now and, with a few tweaks, have found it working really well.

There’s outline info below and you might find this Group Retreats FAQ helpful.

This guide includes details of the room setup at Ruk.

Accommodation and numbers

We have 8 guest bedrooms at Rukgala - altogether 4 double rooms, 3 twins and a large sharing room with 4 (large) single beds.

2 of the twins and 2 of the doubles (those in the Garden Cottage) have a mezzanine space with extra single bed.

The guide (up top) gives an easier way to picture the layout but numbers-wise we think 16 is great, 18’s definitely possible - anything more’s a push.

We have a further two bedrooms (little smaller with small shared bathroom) allocated for the retreat teacher/leader(s).

Food and drink

We will share with you our group retreat menu - a set menu that spans 6 days of delicious fusion dishes. We’ve found most retreat organisers like their guests to experience Sri Lankan food so we lean on that for evening meals. Lunches are normally light and Western-inspired. For breakfasts we tend to rotate between the two styles but can set up as you choose.

Tea, coffee, king coconuts are all included in the per person food and drink price.

Things to do

Paddle-boarding and mountain hikes to art therapy and cooking classes - the enigmatically-titled More page has details (as does the Group Retreats Guide).

Pricing

For group retreats we price Ruk with a fixed accommodation charge and then a per person charge for food and drink. Please ask and we’ll send you the full rate card.
