FAQs for Personal Retreats at Ruk

  • Our Personal Retreats run all through the year - they don’t have fixed start dates so you can join any time.

  • Our Personal Retreats are rolling, open options so we can’t really say if they’ll be full or relatively quiet. If you are looking for a really active social scene then we might not be the best spot. If you’re looking for a chilled and fun experience with a few cool people, we’re a good bet.

  • Weather-wise the first few months of the year - up until late April - tend to be driest. We get a bit of the South-West rains in May and June and then then again around November. If you’re not so concerned with afternoon downpours then any time of year can be fun.

For paddle-boarding the lake tends to be at it’s best in Jan/Feb and again in August/September.

Hikes are great at any time.

  • Feel free to, but we have good quality yoga mats, blocks and bolsters.

  • We have a resident teachers all year round at Ruk. You can see who is currently ‘in residence’ on our Yoga page

  • Depends where you’re starting! But from Colombo taking the train to Kandy is a good option (intercity trains leave Colombo early morning and mid-afternoon - you can book tickets in advance at www.seatreservation.railway.gov.lk)

If coming direct from the airport it doesn’t make so much sense to go back into Colombo. Taking a taxi is much easier. We can help arrange if needed.

Coming from Kandy a Tuk Tuk is about 45 minutes and should only be about $20.

  • Everything that’s mentioned on the Personal Retreats page is included and timings can be arranged (for massage etc.) when you get to us.

If you want to book in anything extra, like a Knuckles Mountain hike, it’s great if you can let us know in advance.

  • Sure thing! We don’t have a way right now to add more days to a Personal Retreat when booking online but you can make a second booking on the B&B basis and just add more stuff (hikes, massages, yoga classes etc.) when you’re with us.

People are welcome, of course, to stay with us as long they like but we do remind folks that we’re not a big outfit with a large restaurant and big menu. We’re also not that close to other foodie spots so if you’re particularly keen on having lots of food choices, a long stay with us might not quite tick the box.
