We built Ruk out of an old house that had sat empty for several years and rather than knock much down we wanted to re-fashion what was already there. Out of that, we’ve ended up with 8 guest bedrooms; 4 in the so-called Top House and 4 in the ‘Garden Cottage’.

Top House Rooms and Garden Cottage rooms are a little different (some details below) but we think, overall, about the same in terms of value so we’ve priced them the same.

Top House Bedrooms

Rooms in the Top House are slightly larger than in the Garden Cottage. They have four-poster beds (with mosquito nets - more decorative than functional we’ve found) and private balconies (as above) that look out over the trees and to the lake. They have:

  • Air conditioning and ceiling fan

  • Ensuite bathroom with shower

  • Large wardrobe space

  • Private balconies

  • Four-poster double beds

  • Writing desk

Garden Cottage bedrooms

The Garden Cottage is a tiny hop from the main house. Bedrooms here (we have two double and two twin rooms) are slightly smaller but do have nice little private gardens and feel perfectly spacious. The bedrooms have a mezzanine level which works well for people wanting a slightly more private shared bedroom. They have:

  • Air-conditioning (and standing floor fans)

  • Ensuite bathroom with bath tubs and (in-bath) showers

  • Large wardrobe space

  • A mezzanine space (with extra single bed)

Other spaces

More of a converted house than a hotel we have comfortable chill-out spaces around Ruk. At the Top House has a little reading room that opens out to the deck with great views (a really nice place to be in the early morning). The deck itself serves as probably the main spot for eating, drinking and generally hanging out.

The dining room is probably slightly misnamed but can be a fun venue for big group dinners. At one end of it, a ‘bar’ area has become a popular spot for checking emails (if you really have to) whilst enjoying the view.

The Garden Cottage has a quiet sitting room that opens quite beautifully out to views of the tops of palm trees and the lake.
